Inspiration from Salt Lake Modernist Architecture
Respecting those who have come before us in this industry is an important cornerstone of Michaelis Homes.
"I’ve only ever just followed my passion, and my interests. I’ve never really set out to be something, but to do something. Activism and creativity are, in my mind, almost one and the same: you aren’t satisfied with the world as you find it."
Ron Molen, Salt Lake City modernist architect and designer.
Building a Better Salt Lake City
The quote above by architect Ron Molen resonates with us. You can go to every corner of the internet to research Molen and will find interviews on architecture and design, but he has an uncanny way of redirecting the conversation to one of his other passions. Yes, he designed and created beautiful live-in works of art, but he would be the first to tell you that activism and creativity go hand in hand. What an example! We respect this ethic and want to emulate the sentiment in our own contracting across the Salt Lake Valley.
Respectful to Modernists Roots
As modern builders in Salt Lake City, we at Michaelis Homes take pride in honoring the creative minds that have come before us. And just like the architects and builders of the Salt Lake modernist movement, we strive to innovate by using new technologies as we build in the valley. When you tour a house that Michaelis Homes has built you will find an ode to mid-century modern style by our use of glass, steel and reinforced concrete in addition to using the latest in renovation techniques. Our homes continue to be functional, minimalist by design, and reject ornamentation. We are believers that for each function - a material, and for each material its form and ornament in itself.
What’s Next for Michaelis Homes Builders
At Michaelis Homes, we are a people-first contracting company. The city of Salt Lake is important to us. Next week we will write on how this inspiration takes root in our own company as we dive into the consultant role we have taken with The Other Side Academy in their ground breaking new development in Northern Salt Lake City.
