MB&D is a family-owned business specializing in custom construction for clients in Salt Lake City, Park City, and Eden, Utah. By working together with a team of talented tradesmen and limiting the number of projects we undertake, we’re able to build with superior workmanship, attention to detail, and the highest level customer service.

Custom construction is truly one of a kind. By adapting a design-driven approach to building, we prioritize design in the decision-making process and overall strategy. It involves working systematically with problem-solving from a holistic perspective, using design to create tangible value and adapting along the way. The greatest custom builders are experts at problem solving and adaptation. Every project has challenges, especially in custom construction because what we’re building has never been built before. What matters is that those challenges are handled with transparency and high-level problem-solving.

Process

Whether you’re starting with a dream, or already have a set of plans, having the right team makes all the difference. We believe it’s imperative to work closely with architects, designers, and our clients throughout the entire build process. Don’t have a design team yet? No problem. We’re happy to assist.

From the initial call to the final build, our process ensures a personalized and seamless experience from start to finish.

  • We discuss your needs, concerns, and priorities for the project. We want to get to know you in depth so we can help create a space that reflects your ideas. We will also discuss budget in order to determine a scope that will work within your resources. We’re happy to work with your architect and designer, or help connect you with the best partners for your project.

  • Once we have an understanding of your project’s unique needs and scope, we work on creating a detailed preliminary estimate for the project. Project planning and estimating is a process. We work directly with the design team, our trade partners, and the clients to build a thorough estimate and scope of work. We facilitate a value engineering process to match the project goals to the budget.

  • Once the final design and budget for your project are completed, we move on to the construction phase. We use an online project management system that gives you access to items such as project timeline, budget, and selections, giving you peace of mind throughout the build. We also hold frequent client meetings either on-site or via zoom.

Originally from Park City, Sean Michaelis is a Utah-native.  He’s always had a knack for building, and it’s no surprise he’s a general contractor. He’s got an eye for detail and a heart for people.

Ashley Michaelis has worked in the home building industry since 2011. After graduating from Florida State University, she began her career at Toll Brothers and has experience in real estate, construction, and interior design.

Together, they created Michaelis Build & Development in 2016 and have been building in Utah ever since.
